Colour Challenge For 15 Minutes Play - Mauve

Victoria from 15 minutes play blog is going to issue members with a challenge each week for the next 12 weeks.  She is going to choose colours that most people shy away from.  For the first week she has chosen mauve.  I dont have a large stash of fabric but did find two pieces with some mauve in them.  I made the following two blocks by adding some contrasting fabrics.

After posting the above two blocks on the 15 minutes play blog I decided to make two more similar blocks.  I then cut each of the blocks into quarters and put them together in the following quilt.  I am not sure what I am going to do with this quilt but am happy to have used up several pieces of fabric.  I have enough of the spotted sashing fabric left over to bind this quilt.

Foto Finish

Not through a window but reflections of windows in a bubble. Last weekend we attended the wedding of friends. It was held Friday evening. On Saturday around 25 of their friends were treated to a cruise around Auckland harbour on a luxury launch which belongs to the grooms employer. A young girl on the trip was blowing bubbles and I took photos of them. This one reflects the windows on the top of the launch.

A Finish At Last

This quilt is made with some kiwiana fabric and other pieces that remind me of our country - lovely greens and blues with some red thrown in to brighten it up. The coloured squares are made fabric a la '15 mins play'.

My 12 x 12 quilt for a swap for 15 mins play is on its way to its recipient. This has been fun creating something out of scraps.

Fun with Scraps

Where to from here? I have been having fun putting this together. It started out as a block for "Block Lotto" but as it did not have enough contrast between the background and star I decided to slash the block and insert the navy strips. This was a result of looking at posts on another fabulous site "15 Minutes of Play". I really love the concept of this group using your scraps to create something different by playing and trying out things you may not necessarily try with your better fabric. I decided to include some smaller variable stars in he next round of fabric. The fun part came with using scraps to create the next strip. I am loving the citrc colours and will have to decide where to go now with this quilt. It is around 55cm (21 1/2in) square at the moment.
