Foto Finish - Blooming Trees

This was the view while lying beside the pool at The Three Brothers Bungalows in Legian, Bali.  I dont know what the tropical tree is but it provided nice shade.

I am babysitting my two oldest granddaughters tonight.  Their mother (our daughter) gave birth last night to a gorgeous baby boy called Mason.  Mother and baby are doing really well.  The girls are talking to mother on the phone at the moment.  They cant wait to go home tomorrow and spend time with their new brother.

Scrap Attack Strings QAL -month 2 for me

I was a month late joining this QAL at http://sewlux.blogspot.co.nz/2012/04/scrap-attack-strings-qal-show-tell-3.html.

After making 5 more to day I now have a total of 20 which I am going to link to the above site.

These are so cheerful and bright - I hope to make more in the next month.

Colour Challenge For 15 Minutes Play - Mauve

Victoria from 15 minutes play blog is going to issue members with a challenge each week for the next 12 weeks.  She is going to choose colours that most people shy away from.  For the first week she has chosen mauve.  I dont have a large stash of fabric but did find two pieces with some mauve in them.  I made the following two blocks by adding some contrasting fabrics.

After posting the above two blocks on the 15 minutes play blog I decided to make two more similar blocks.  I then cut each of the blocks into quarters and put them together in the following quilt.  I am not sure what I am going to do with this quilt but am happy to have used up several pieces of fabric.  I have enough of the spotted sashing fabric left over to bind this quilt.

Foto Finish - Animals

This cheeky little fellow is one of our flightless birds - a Weka.  Love the little yellow plastic duck next to his water dish.  This photo was taken on a WIA trip to Kapiti Island.  We went out at night on this small island to look for our other flightless bird - the kiwi.  Unfortunately I had caught a stomach bug from one of my grandchildren and became violently ill that night so I dont have fond memories of that trip.  I also missed the tramp that the others did the following day as I was still really unwell.  It was a mixed blessing being sick that day as it absolutely poured with rain and the others got soaked to the skin.
